about

I’m Karan, a software engineer in Mumbai who builds tools out of friction.

Most of my best work started as a problem I ran into myself: a slow workflow, a confusing setup, a task the whole team kept repeating. I don’t stop at a workaround. I turn it into something lasting, like a tool, a convention, or a piece of documentation, so the next person doesn’t hit the same wall.

I think in two layers at once. On the technical side, I care about clean architecture and systems that hold up. On the business side, I ask what a fix is actually worth. That’s how I’ve pushed for better practices on my teams. I make the case for the impact, not just the code.

I work mostly across NextJS, TypeScript, NodeJS, Python, React Native, and Frappe/ERPNext. What drives me is helping developers spend their energy on the real problem, not on everything around it.

I live in a terminal. This site is set in my terminal font.

what I’ve worked on

Systems that keep working when conditions don’t: an open-source ecommerce platform, real-time dashboards that stream live data over WebSockets and Redis, and offline-first mobile apps that keep businesses running where the network can’t be trusted.

I’ve also spoken about the ecommerce work: Next Generation eCommerce Platform with ERPNext, with Atul Agrawal at Frappeverse, September 2023.

now building

A framework for shipping web and mobile apps from one shared foundation. Instead of starting from scratch for each platform and each project, teams install two versioned packages that carry the architecture, the conventions and the shared logic. Web and native code stay inside that structure, so a fix made once reaches every project that upgrades.

Day to day, I work on the parts that make that foundation fast to use: a web-first workflow, AI-assisted tooling, and making native feel as quick and predictable as web. The goal is simple: shorter delivery cycles, consistent quality across projects and developers who can move between them without starting over.
